Taronga Zoo is the Sydney zoo, Australia which first opened on October 7, 1916. The zoo is located in the coastal area of the port of Sydney (Sydney Harbor) in Mosman. The zoo's area is 287 hectares and has more than 26,000 animals. The zoo is divided into eight areas with various platforms in buildings and demonstrations outside the building. In a 185-acre, hilly green area (75 hectares) on the edge of the harbor in the upscale satellite town of Mosman, you will find one of the most spectacular zoos in the world. Taronga Zoo is the perfect place to meet Australian wildlife. And with more than 2,500 animals representing 340 more species, Taronga includes animals from all over the world.
Native Australian animals are highly represented in this zoo, including koalas, Tasmanian devils, porcupines and kangaroos. Visit the Nocturnal House and find many typical Australian marsupials playing, such as platypus and bilby, the Australian version of Easter Bunny. Enjoy the joy of young Asian elephants and see striped tailed lemurs in their cages. Watch the beavers playing and meerkats running around the rocky house. Rest your feet at a free bird show, when kite birds, black parrots, and giant eagles fly freely over your head.
